About the client: Evil House (E.H.) —
a student-operated concert venue, where each show follows a theme and would feature local musicians/artists whose productions sonically match the theme of the event. EH
reached out to us late February, proposing a collaboration fundraising event. Our organization would handle promotional material and marketing while their venue would focus solely on the logistic of the show.
Timeline: E.H. gave us a week to finish the promotional content. Unfortunately, that would have left us with only a week to promote on our social channels, between the date of the event and assets delivery date. And for event promotion, we would have needed two weeks for maximum exposure. Normally I would have turned down this project as I didn’t want to promote crunch culture, however, I saw this as a fun challenge, so I managed to complete the project within 3-days.

Design process: E.H. gave us carte blance permission to create content as we see fit. With that in mind, I still wanted the final round of deliverables to be thematically consistent with the venue and event.
Understanding the clients’ audience are mostly alternative college students and that the venue features mostly punk artists, I quickly collaged a moodboard for reference and inspiration for the project. I also thought it would be clever to integrate the client’s name, Evil House, in the concept somehow.
The final art direction that I settled on, was a
fictional science fiction comic book inspired by pulp horror of the 1960-1970s.
Secondary asset:
The primary medium for all our promotional content was Instagram. Thus,
I wanted to further utilize the carousel function to add an interactive element for our audience to learn more about the event and build upon the comic book concept further.
I proceeded to design a pseudo-comic/catalog for our followers to swipe on.
I also designed a negative version of the zombie astronaut featured prominently on the promotional material to be turned into a screen print for the event.
